PWOS Farewell
At the 2021 AGM for Prairie Women on Snowmobiles, an extensive discussion was held about the future of the organization. Since 2014 it has become harder to fill the rider positions, as well as the positions for the executive. In 2016 the length of the ride was shortened hoping that would help and in 2018 the number of riders required was also lowered. All of these adjustments did not help our situation.
As a result, a resolution was made to dissolve Prairie Women on Snowmobiles. It was voted on and passed. It is with a very heavy heart that I have to announce that PWOS will be dissolved and discontinued.
This is disheartening news but PWOS has had a successful 20 years of raising funds and awareness for the early detection of Breast Cancer and every member, pit crew, executive and corporate sponsors who has ever participated with this amazing organization should be extremely proud of the accomplishments that we have been able to achieve. We have raised $2,532,968.31 for the CCS (Canadian Cancer Society) for research as well as $436,000.00 for the CFS (Cancer Foundation of Saskatchewan) for the purchase of equipment that stays in the province. We have visited 198 communities, have had 164 amazing women riders, and 37 awesome pit crew with 25 strong women sitting on the executive. The hundreds of corporate sponsors over the years and the thousands of volunteers who have helped us with meals, coffee stops, and leaders also share in the pride that we all share over these amazing achievements that we have had, many of these volunteers have come to us though our Saskatchewan Snowmobile Clubs.
The executive would like to humbly thank each and every one of the people who have ever been involved and extend our deepest gratitude for all that you have done for this wonderful organization.
Last Banquet & Ride
The CCS and CFS are hosting a thank you farewell banquet and ride on March 19, 2022 at the Bella Vista Inn in Humboldt, SK. The ride will start at 10:30 am at the Bella Vista Inn and follow the trail, there will be a hotdog lunch along the way, the ride is open to anyone who wishes to join and is free of charge. Tickets to the banquet are limited and are $20.00 per person, you can get yours by emailing Carla Bernard at [email protected] and include your full name and phone number to hold your tickets. We are hoping to see many of our past corporate sponsors as you are a huge part of our accomplishment and you should be celebrated as well.
I would like to personally thank you for all you have done in the past, and I hope you know that you will always be special in my heart. I am a survivor and I wished there was an organization like this when I was on my cancer journey, I hope you realize how special the gift you gave was to those in need.
Regards,
Kelly Kim Rea, President
